Deacon Claybourne, “Nashville”
Likelihood of Death: 85%
Unlike a lot of shows that will let alcoholics skate on health-related issues IF they reform, “Nashville” plays it closer to reality. After decades of abusing his body, Deacon Claybourne collapsed in his hotel room during the mid-season finale because cirrhosis of the liver had come to collect. Bonus: He might also have cancer. In a show that will straight up murder characters that have outlived their usefulness, things are looking grim for Rayna James’ former flame.
Why They Might Survive: The most compelling reason for Claybourne’s survival is his on again/off again relationship with Rayna. In a show so unabashedly soapy, he’ll live to see another day if it’s more dramatic than if he died and left Rayna wondering “What if” for the rest of her life.
