Which Tim Burton and Brian DePalma films made the cut?
'Terminator: Salvation' (2009)
With series creator James Cameron having shifted his hi-tech film savvy to increasingly huge CG wonders, the once gritty and compelling "Terminator" franchise seemed ready for extinction by the time "Salvation" was announced. Matters weren't helped by the revelation that Sugar Ray music video auteur McG was directing. Then, a funny thing happened on the way to the robot apocalypse: The trailer was actually really cool, new leading man Christian Bale (despite his famous on-set rage attack) seemed destined to play an adult John Connor, and many fans' hopes were surprisingly high. Then the movie came out. Despite some easy-on-the-eyes support (Bryce Dallas Howard, "Avatar" star Sam Worthington, Moon Bloodgood) and some very cool takes on future-primitive Cyberdine machinery, the movie was a mess on narrative and character levels, and stalled the series for at least several years.
