Lowdown: 20th Century Fox goes back to the well, this time with a re-booted origin story: Just how did those apes get so smart in the first place? Answer: James Franco.
Grade: A-. Chilling, downbeat trailer makes the film look a lot more grounded than Tim Burton's sloppy "Planet of the Apes" from 2000. The ape effects look great (courtesy of WETA), and it's nice that the trailer doesn't give too much info, like can the apes speak yet? OR will they wait for the inevitable sequel? Plus, Brian Cox ("X-Men 2," "Red") has one blood-chilling line.
