"The Last Airbender"

"The Last Airbender"

Lowdown: A mysterious young hero "returns" to fight the forces of evil in director M. Night Shyamalan's big screen adaptation of the popular kids anime series.

Grade:
C+  It's got lots of expensive spectacle, but will anyone over the age of 15 care about these young heroes? Is there any real drama here to appeal to even twentysomethings?  We're not so sure. And if there is, this preview isn't selling it.

A bit harsh on the Airbender trailer imo - there is enough there to tease most genre fans into something more than passing curiousity and I say that as a person with little to no knowledge of the show other than knowing the concept and that it's on Nick.

As for the rest...the Magruber thing melts brains just by existing. Yuck.

  • Well, i think Airbender trailer was cool! Definitely gonna watch it! As far as Toy Story is concerned, all I will say is remember "Up"? The seemingly "lame" plot of a guy flying off his house with balloons, made it not only an Oscar Nominated movie but an Oscar winner too! I trust Pixar!

Typical snooty dissing of the e-lite bloggers. No doubt Gregory did his homework by going to TV.com and getting the demographic of it's 2nd season. What he fails to mention is that by the end of the show Avatar is easily the most positively recognized cartoons among 15-55 year olds and that is the demographic the movie is appealing to.
Just because you're too mature to go see it, don't go whizzing on the rest of us adults that can't wait for it.

@JoeK is soooo right about Magruber. I would have loved to be in the board room when this script was floated. Do these idiots really think such stupid trash is funny to anyone?

Oh well, I'm sure Gregory will go see it and rave about how it's such a genius piece of satire.

    ...yawn.
