Lowdown: Will Ferrell is in serio-comic mode (see "Stranger Than Fiction") in Dan Rush's directorial debut based on the Raymond Carver short story. A middle age alcoholic loses his job and his wife and decides to sell off all of his possessions in an extended yardsale.
Grade:
D+. This is the sort of trailer (and maybe film) that wants it all ways: Big name star, self-conscious quirkiness, uplifting music by a nameless indie rock band, prestige (Toronto Film Fest! Raymond Carver!) but really adds up to a bit fat "meh."
