'Sleepy Hollow' (FOX)
FOX's Monday hit, which will wrap its 13-episode run in January and then somehow have to sustain momentum for nine months before returning for Season 2 next fall, is a prime example of how to do crazy, utterly nonsensical mythology in a way that amuses and entertains, rather than confusing. The mixture of demons, American history, Native American lore, Biblical mumbo-jumbo and Masonic conspiracies never takes itself seriously, but still honors viewers who do and thanks to Tom Mison and Nicole Beharie, it has two wholly appealing leads, capable of both straight drama and winking comedy. One of the year's purest pieces of pop entertainment, "Sleepy Hollow" is still struggling to make proper use of Orlando Jones and to make any use of Nicholas Gonzalez, but if it can wrap up strong this winter, the writers will have lots of time to worry about keeping things fresh.
