More or less what we expected, with a few surprises

Wizards, and Pirates, and Bridesmaids, oh my!: the top ten films at the summer 2011 box office

Wizards, and Pirates, and Bridesmaids, oh my!: the top ten films at the summer 2011 box office

When you look at the top ten-grossing films of the summer 2011 box office, there aren't many surprises to be found. As anticipated, the majority of the bunch are sequels ("Harry Potter", "Transformers, "Pirates of the Caribbean", et al.), with perhaps only two entries - "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and "Bridesmaids" - qualifying as bona fide sleepers. Nevertheless, three films that we predicted would make the cut at the beginning of the summer ( "Green Lantern", "Cowboys & Aliens", and "Crazy Stupid Love") failed to live up to expectations, allowing for a few minor surprises to rank on the list. As for the order? Well, you'll have to click on through our gallery to find out.

Also, Planet of the Apes and The Help will most likely bump 2 of these movies off the list when all is said and done.

Stormshadow4life And on a side note...I've seen all of these movie (except Cars 2), and for me, Apes and Xmen were BY FAR the best of the summer.

Jonnybon Harry Potter was much better than them (though still not a patch on the book).
