Knocked Up (2007)
Plot: A schlubby guy gets a lot more than he bargained for when his beautiful one-night stand reveals that she's pregnant with his child.
What's in it for guys: Seth Rogen was born for his role here as Ben Stone, a lovable pot-smoking layabout who scores with a woman who (let's be honest) probably wouldn't have had anything to do with him had she not been drinking. In classic Apatow fashion, the central group of emotionally-stunted male friends (Jason Segel, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, et al.) are both hilarious in their utter cluelessness and likable as hell.
What's in it for girls: Putting aside her less-than-adored public persona nearly five years hence, Katherine Heigl was actually very good here as a woman who suddenly finds herself being faced with the initially-mortifying prospect of "settling" for a man who's completely out of her league. Despite what the actress would claim later, Apatow is one of the rare male comedy directors who excels at writing three-dimensional female characters; Leslie Mann's post-rejection scene outside the nightclub is both funny and emotionally poignant.
