10. "Forrest Gump"
The iconic role that earned Hanks his second Academy Award has lost some of its luster over the years, but "Forrest Gump" was still a notable achievement. Hanks had to convey Forrest's life-story in a meaningful way while navigating director Robert Zemeckis' melodramatic and historical photo bombing direction. He also had the difficult task of playing a man with what can best be described as significantly mentally impaired without turning him into a negative stereotype. It was no easy task and much of the film's global adoration was for Hanks's endearing performance more than anything else.
