Top 10 new Christmas albums for 2009: Archuleta, Dylan and a massive pop compilation

Leighton Meester, Miley and Carrie celebrate the season, plus a song stream from Sting

Sting, "If on a Winter's Night"

It was a bit unpredictable that Sting, the former lead singer of The Police, started churning out consummate yuppie music and lute concept albums, what-have-you, but even those who have lost interest over the years may be really really into this set. In particular, those who dislike their favorite carols being turned into swing songs or It Girls sexily singing about Santa Claus will appreciate the meditative, simmering easiness of this set, which mostly consists of English folk songs, lullabies and a couple well-known carols.

Sting does a better job of explaining the set in the video below, but let it be known that his chilled-out voice is practically made for winter.

Check out this stream of "Soul Cake" from the set.

Out Oct. 27
