3. Daniel Day-Lewis, "Lincoln" (2012)
Daniel Day-Lewis not only looked uncannily like our 16th president, but inhabited his spirit to an almost eerie degree in Steven Spielberg’s historical drama last year. Day-Lewis reportedly stayed in character throughout the film, which garnered him this February’s Best Actor Oscar. Whether it was the sparkle in his eye, the kindness in his soft-spoken voice or the passion in his speeches as he brought slavery to an end, the actor brought history to life in an invigorating portrayal that leapt off the screen.
