Top 10 'Man vs. Wilderness' movies

Now better known for his bad-ass heroics in a series of action films than for starring in the awards-bait dramas he used to churn out on a regular basis, Liam Neeson has transformed himself into one of the more unlikely Hollywood action heroes in recent memory. His latest testosterone-heavy big-screen venture is of course "The Grey", which sees the actor starring as an oil driller who is forced to square off with a pack of snarling wolves after the plane he and several of his co-workers are riding in crash-lands in the remote wilderness. The film is a dream come true for those who enjoy a good cinematic yarn about men going toe-to-toe with Mother Nature, though of course it's only the latest in a long line of films to deal with the subject. In anticipation of the film's impending release, then, we take a look back at ten of the most exceptional examples of the "Man vs. Wilderness" sub-genre - a category made up of films that center on individuals who unwittingly (or sometimes wittingly) find themselves at the mercy of the natural world.

The author of "Into the Wild" is Jon Krakauer (not Jay).

Frozen was an absolutely terrible movie. The only way to make it suspenseful was to have the main characters lack all common sense and do the obvious and correct thing only as a last resort.
