The Most Anticipated Movies of 2011: 'Breaking Dawn,' 'Harry Potter,' 'Thor'

Lots of Spielberg, comedies, Marvel heroes and...Jennifer Aniston?

2011 looks like a good mix

2011 looks like a good mix

2011 is shaping up to be a great year at the movies.  Hollywood is mixing a fair share of sequels with some truly original and out there potential blockbusters.  And yet, as HitFix presents its 30 most anticipated films of 2010, don't be surprised if some familiar names aren't on this list.  Movies such as "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol," "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" and "The Hangover, Part II" may be expected hits, but we're not convinced they will be better than their predecessors.

Moreover, there are a couple of trends developing for the coming year that will be very obvious in our compilation: Steven Spielberg is back in a big way with two new directing efforts ("War Horse" and "Tintin") and his producing of J.J. Abrams "Super 8"; adult comedies are plentiful; Jennifer Aniston has been very busy with three new flicks; and premier filmmakers such as Wes Anderson, Steven Soderbergh, Martin Scorsese, Joe Wright and Cameron Crowe all have major films to debut.

Curious what made the list and what didn't?  Click on the tabs above and see for yourself.

Slide 22 doesn't have a title. Slide 27 should read 'Hugo Cabret', not Cabert.

"Thor" doesn't look so good. Based on comments from the actors, "Rise of the Apes" may be the dark horse in next summer's race. They really dig the director Rupert Wyatt.

  • I was interested in "Thor" and "Green Lantern" but the trailers for them came off as cheesy and made me put them more towards "Jonah Hex" than "The Dark Knight".

Hope I am wrong. Would love a summer full of good stuff, unlike the past 2 years.

I'll be interested in a DC comics movie that doesn't involve Lex Luthor trying to outdo Donald Trump...

    It's "Cabret", not "Cabaret".
