We'll never know what might have happened if Simon Cowell had somehow remembered that Cheryl Cole had a thick accent *before* recruiting her to do the American "X Factor." Cowell's abruptly decided to replace Cole early in auditions, pulling in reality TV gadfly Scherzinger, who was previously co-hosting the show. It set off a chain reaction that left everybody disappointed. Jones struggled all season to find a rapport with either the judges or contestants and seemed to make "running on time" his top priority. Nicole, meanwhile, seemed to be neglecting both her mentoring duties -- Simon mocked her jetting out of the country between shows -- and her judging duties. Even if Nicole hadn't been directly responsible for the season's most awkward and unpleasant moment -- Rachel Crowe's collapsing, tear-filled elimination -- she still would have been wishy-washy and substance-free. Hopefully, Simon will fix his mistake and bring in a new judge. Might we suggest Cheryl Cole?
