9. They finally paid off that debt to Clint Eastwood (whatever it was).
For a number of years, it's seemed like Clint Eastwood has had the Academy in his back pocket. Did he have incriminating photos or something? Did he threaten to break their thumbs if they didn't nominated films like "Changeling," "Invictus" and "Hereafter" for at least one Oscar? Okay, so they snubbed "Gran Torino" in 2008, but "J. Edgar" was the kind of film that, despite being of obviously poor quality, could have still turned the trick and landed in the Academy's wheel house. It didn't: zero nominations. --Kristopher Tapley
