4. Whatever Gary Oldman did, all is forgiven.
The performances are legend: "Prick Up Your Ears," "JFK," "Leon," "The Contender," "The Dark Knight," on and on. And yet, Gary Oldman has gone without an Oscar nomination his entire career. It's been a blight on the Academy, really. Has it always been his conservative politics? Is it that unfortunate Premiere interview from 2000? As a result of his manager equating Steven Spielberg to Joseph Goebbels therein, was he really in the dog house for a decade, as some have proposed? Whatever it was, he's finally an Oscar nominee, recognized for his brilliant, subtle work in Tomas Alfredson's "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy." So it's all finally water under the bridge. --Kristopher Tapley
