10. As ever, they like their crafts pretty.
No production designer this year racked up more precursor love than Maria Djurkovic: for her meticulously detailed, tangibly dusty warren of ill-lit 1970s offices in "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy," she was honored with notices from the Los Angeles and London critics as well as the British Independent Film Awards (winning the latter two in all-purpose Technical Achievement categories, no less). She scooped a guild nod, too, but her reward this morning was to be elbowed aside by the pretty Parisian drapes of "Midnight in Paris." The costumers, meanwhile, were the only ones to spring for ungainly (but lavishly dressed) white-elephant contenders "Anonymous" and "W.E." With these branches, color and style still counts for everything. --Guy Lodge
