Kristopher Tapley Yes but Tinker won runner-up.

January 24, 2012 at 3:48PM EST Reply to CommentFor once, I'm NOT fuming mad about the Oscar noms this year because of.....The Tree of Life inclusion!
Not that mad about Brooks, Woodley snubs. Glad that Bridesmaids didn't get BP nom (it's not really that great). Happy Tintin didn't get a nom for animated (Rango!). Dragon Tattoo didn't get a BP or BD noms, good! Luv the Gary Oldman nod, but sad no design nom, but score nom for Tinker Tailor! I just hate when the "other" site bash the score (because Tattoo got ignored) of Tinker Tailor...

January 24, 2012 at 4:00PM EST Reply to CommentNeither was No Country for Old Men or The Hurt Locker or The Departed, and There Will Be Blood and The Social Network and Winter's Bone and A Serious Man and Up in the Air; I could go on and on with the last decade alone. I think that's a poor excuse, sometime they like it rough and sometimes they rather have it gentle.
Kristopher Tapley Up in the Air isn't the best example for you to use against the point we've raised, Winter's Bone and A Serious Man need 10 nominations to place and the Departed/No Country/Hurt Locker spread represents a mere three-year spread where they went off the range a bit. That's nothing in the context of 83, so no, it's not a poor excuse. It's fact.

January 24, 2012 at 6:37PM EST Reply to CommentCan I just seriously say how bothered I am by the existence of The Help. Seriously, the only way for a minority/person of color to gain that attention of this esteemed Academy is to play a maid saved by the gusty optimism of a plucky white girl. Really? Until these show become more than one group of rich white people giving another group of rich white people trophies, I cannot take it seriously. (Sorry, but that is my annual rant about the blatant race issues at the Oscars and general hatred of The Help.)
JLPatt Ughhhhh... no movie about African Americans can go by without being hounded by accusations and complaints. Enough already.
January 24, 2012 at 7:23PM ESTGuy Lodge Even if I have more patience with the film than she does, Anneka's point about The Help is valid, and doesn't deserve to be dismissed.
January 24, 2012 at 9:21PM ESTJLPatt It's completely annoying and untrue. Nobody is "saved" by a plucky white girl. She is a mere catalyst for change, not some kind of holy savior. Nothing about the movie is racist unless you're purposefully looking for things that aren't there.
