December 27, 2011 at 4:30PM EST Reply to CommentPretty great list Kris and very similar to my own (I would have Raiders at #2 followed closely by Jaws and Close Encounters). But yes, E.T. is the best film he's ever made and is my personal favorite film of all-time. It is so cinematically well-made and shows Spielberg in total control of being a visual storyteller. Should have won the Best Picture Oscar.
Big kudos to recognizing Empire of the Sun too, I'm constantly trying to convince people to watch it to see how good it is. Also one of the most underrated John Williams' scores as well.

So it's alright to kill them off for their "delicious" shark fin. However, the film is monumental in the history of movie-making...
CaptainCanada People hardly had a positive view of sharks prior to "Jaws".

December 27, 2011 at 7:22PM EST Reply to CommentI think Munich was underrated, too. In the way that a perceived frontrunner that misses the mark is then perceived as a huge failure. But it sticks with me more than anything else he's made.
Playhouse Agreed, 'Munich' is underrated. I'd much rather have that in a Top 10 list than 'A.I.' I'd probably even pick 'Amistad' over 'A.I.' I just couldn't escape how much it felt like Spielberg masquerading in Kubrick's voice the entire film, which did no favors for either.

"Empire of the Sun" is great. Christian Bale does show amazing talent there.
Great list! It reminded me how great Spielberg actually is. I might change some of the positions, but anyway it's an amazing collection of films.
