An actor’s worst enemy is fear. Well, let me rephrase that. An actor’s worst enemy is self-conscious, debilitating fear that takes them out of their body, the world and character that they’re inhabiting and the moment and directly into an inhibited, chattering mind. It has been said that Marlon Brando had the gift of relaxation, which is to say there was little or no (creatively limiting) restraint in his performance. It is electrifying to watch someone shed vanity and toxic ego and with intrepid abandon devour a role even as they allow it to consume them. That is what Rapace does in “Prometheus.” She is fearless.
