5. Marcia Gay Harden, "Mystic River" (2003)
Sean Penn was the one largely singled out from the accomplished cast of Eastwood's over-praised 2003 thriller "Mystic River," but it was Marcia Gay Harden who was the true gem of the cast, in this viewer's opinion. She boils paranoia, confusion, distress and fear to a palpable essence in her limited screen time and fleshed out one of the most memorable but organic characters of the piece while everyone else was kind of grandstanding.
