The Lists: In Contention's Top 10 Performances in Clint Eastwood Films
What do Leonardo DiCaprio, Kevin Costner and Jessica Walter have in common?
8. Jessica Walter, "Play Misty for Me" (1971)
I sometimes wake up screaming thinking of Jessica Walter's terrifying shriek of rage in Eastwood's directorial debut, "Play Misty for Me." Okay, that's overstating it, but Walter carved out the prototypical scorned lunatic to which later actresses like Glenn Close would owe a debt of gratitude. She's a pressence in the film, even when she's not on screen, and it takes a certain something to pull that off. She only managed a Golden Globe nomination for the work, however.
