The Lists: In Contention's Top 10 Most Anticipated Films of 2012

A new year, a new reserve of hope for the multiplex

4. "Untitled Terence Malick Project" (Terrence Malick, No Current U.S. Distribution - TBA)

Terrance Malick emerged at a time when filmmakers were seeking to communicate the truth of their experience in a way that was free of the constraints of conventional narrative. There are things words cannot hold, for which logic is too small. Malick never forgot that. And whether he is successful every time or not, he continues to invite us into a dialog that addresses the very nature of what it is to be human. Ostensibly, the “Untitled Terrence Malick Project” is “about” a man who reunites with a childhood love following a failed marriage. But the emotional experience and thematic core of the film promises to be so much more than that. --Roth Cornet
