10. "A Prairie Home Companion" (2006)
Robert Altman’s final film, an amiable, freewheeling ensemble tribute to Garrison Keillor’s titular radio show, is unlikely to go down as one of his classics. Still, playing one dippy half of a country-singing sister act, Streep’s performance is sufficiently sly and touching to make you wish she’d been around for the glory days of “Nashville.” And any opportunity to hear her singing voice is always a treat. Overlooked that year in favour of her starrier turn in “The Devil Wears Prada,” only the National Society of Film critics thought to cite her for both.
