5. "Sleepy Hollow" (1999)
Underrated it may be, but this dreamy nightmare vision of Washington Irving’s Headless Horseman tale represents the aesthetic apex of Burton’s Gothic output, and Atwood’s costuming is as integral to it as Rick Heinrichs’s deservedly Academy-honored production design. (She had to settle for the nomination, but won both the Guild and BAFTA awards.)
