10. "Memoirs of a Geisha" (2005)

Not much is right in Rob Marshall’s wool-headed adaptation of Arthur Golden’s Japan-set bestseller – certainly not the Oscar-winning production design, which seems chiefly inspired by noodle packets – but Atwood’s costuming, which presumably used up the silk supply of a small Third World country, is a lustrous exception. Finding the right balance between authenticity and romantic movie-kitsch, and grandly color-coding its characters’ arcs, this dazzling kimono parade inevitably won Atwood her second Academy Award.
