4. Jamie Bell, "Billy Elliot" (2000)
Stephen Daldry has never come close to the heights of his directorial debut, "Billy Elliot" (fingers crossed for "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close"), but he had a keen eye for talent when he went about casting the titular character of the film. Jamie Bell sparked to the role like he was destined to play it, a young man in northern England born to the working class with dreams of becoming a ballet dancer. He conveys the mischief, passion and emotional whirlwind of Billy's journey with a steady ease and he owned every moment.
