Two years ago 2009's finest art direction was recognized in the form of an Oscar nomination for "Sherlock Holmes." The film of course was no match for the frontrunning "Avatar" that season, but Sarah Greenwood's designs and their implementation by her art department team were nevertheless strikingly detailed and committed. Two years later, the film's sequel, "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows," is very much more of the same, but the film's production design is again a marvel that could potentially be left off due to sequel-phobia. Greenwood and company elevate their game here with wonderful flourishes signaling the beginning of the modern militaristic era and they ought to be given a serious look. --Kristopher Tapley
