19. 'The Blues Brothers' (1980)
Many, many "Saturday Night Live" skits have crashed and burned when dragged out to movie length, but the Blues Brothers (John Belushi as Jake E. Blues and Dan Aykroyd as Elwood J. Blues) differentiated themselves by making their scant three appearances on the show performance-based and mostly straight (okay, there was that time with the bee costumes). Maybe it was that mostly blank slate that allowed for the madcap, chaotic result, which featured plenty of car crashes, a random assortment of stars in supporting roles (everyone from Carrie Fisher to Aretha Franklin) and, most importantly, the brothers Blues performing well enough to pass as real musicians. On a "mission from God" to save the orphanage in which they were raised, the siblings never said much but proved their affection through actions, not words. Their hijinks may ultimately land them in jail, but there was never doubt that they were in perfect harmony.
