10. 'Dawn of the Dead' (2004)
While fast zombies may not be true to George Romero's original twisted vision, admit it -- there is something truly horrifying about dead people who come at you damn fast. Loyalists may grumble, but the fast, hungry zombies of the remake seem especially apropos for our more-better-faster 21st century world. The remake had a frenetic video game quality with little time for dark humor, but what it lacked in a slow, chilling build it made up for in pure terror. Strong casting (especially sad-eyed Jake Weber as Michael and the always exceptional Sarah Polley as Anna) elevated the material above typical horror, and the "camcorder" footage after the credits is the stuff of nightmares.
