One of the most remarkable aspects of this film is that it’s able to make what is, essentially, a series of math problems entirely engaging. Here’s what’s extraordinary about that: In an era that is particularly enamored with antiheroes and nihilistic perspectives, here is a film that utilizes science to present an optimistic point of view. It says: “Things may be challenging, they may even feel hopeless, or impossible, but if we get smart people together and work at this step by step we can solve things and beat what feel like insurmountable odds.” It’s refreshing and gorgeously achieved.
