HitFix ranks the franchise in time for 'Star Trek Into Darkness'
7. "Star Trek III: The Search For Spock" (1984)
This might be the pulpiest of the "Trek" films, and one of the only times they've done a direct sequel to the film before it. They had to, though, and that title set us up for a feature-length reset of what had been an emotionally powerful ending to the previous film. You've got Christopher Lloyd as a Klingon, you've got the only death that could have topped Spock's (until that point, the Enterprise seemed untouchable), and you've got Shatner at his most emotionally overwrought. It's not a great film on its own, but as a response to "Khan," it was tons of fun.
