Best: Sally Hawkins makes the cut for 'Blue Jasmine'
When it comes to awards for "Blue Jasmine" so far, it's been pretty much all Cate Blanchett, all the time. Which is understandable -- she's pretty great, after all. But her performance isn't the sole standout feature of Woody Allen's widely acclaimed drama, which is why it's nice to see the Globes following the Indie Spirits by recognizing Sally Hawkins' less fiery, but beautifully etched supporting turn as Blanchett's put-upon sister. You may remember that the lovably shy British actress was virtually lost for words when the Globes handed her their Best Actress (Comedy/Musical) award for "Happy-Go-Lucky" five years ago, so it's great to see her returning to the dance. Now, it's time for the Academy to make things up to her.
