Best known acting projects: "Boogie Nights," "Three Kings," "The Departed"
Best known music projects: Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch
What's better: Music or acting? You can't underestimate how underestimated "Boogie Nights" was. Nothing about it -- from the sleazy subject to the weird casting of Burt Reynolds to the debut of onetime vibration-dispenser Marky Mark -- felt like a sure thing. But if we learned anything from Paul Thomas Anderson's masterpiece, it's that Mark Wahlberg's huffy screen presence was bracing and convincing. We came to accept him as a worthy screen king in "Three Kings," "The Italian Job," "The Fighter," "Ted," and of course "The Departed," which netted him an Oscar nomination. Though his roles are often similarly caustic, Wahlberg has far exceeded the reputation of a man whose potential for achievement seemed limited to Annie Leibovitz underwear shoots.
What's next for either: All acting -- "Mojave," "The Gambler" and of course "Ted 2"
