'The Dark Knight Rises,' 'Hunger Games,' 'Star Wars' and other titles create some conundrums
10. Can 20th Century Fox open 'The Three Stooges'?
At one time, The Farrelly Brothers were set to make a "Three Stooges" movie starring Jim Carrey, Benecio Del Toro and Sean Penn. That trio had Hollywood buzzing about a film that had the potential to either be amazing or one of the most bizarre creative disasters of all time. Unfortunately, MGM's financial troubles scuttled the project (after Carrey had put on a ton of weight for it) and the Farrelly Bros. were back to square one. Fast forward to 2011 and 20th Century Fox agrees to move forward with the project at a much lower budget and Mo, Larry and Curley played by Chris Diamantopoulos ("24"), Sean Hayes ("Will & Grace") and Will Sasso (MadTV). The cast was questionable enough, but Fox's first attempt at a trailer make the film look 50 years too late and tediously unfunny. Can Fox figure out a way to make the Farrelly's passion project appeal to audiences? They've got less than three months to make it happen. "Stooges" opens on April 13.
