6. 'The Babe' (1992)
Despite lacking any particular perspective on the life and achievements of Babe Ruth, Arthur Hiller's biopic chugged into production seemingly entirely due to the availability of a high profile husky actor somewhat capable of literally filling Babe Ruth's XXL pinstripes. Leave aside, if you will, that Goodman was too old to play Babe Ruth, looked nothing at all like Babe Ruth, was far heavier than The Bambino ever was and lacked any sort of physicality to embody The Babe's athleticism. No, what's worse is that "The Babe" has no narrative reason for existing other than to repeat the same "Babe Ruth was a great athlete, but a bit of a putz" line that people even knew when Ruth was alive. Throw in cringe-worthy supporting turns by Kelly McGillis and Trini Alvarado, plus direction suggesting Arthur Hiller had never attended a baseball in his life and you have one of the lesser sports movies ever made.
