4. "Network" (Sidney Lumet, 1976)
Paddy Chayefsky gets a lot of the credit for this, as he should. It's the greatest screenplay ever written, and as much as has been said about its prescience, it's not nearly enough. The film cuts deep and righteous, as much of a warning then as it should be now.
