Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash leaves 'Sesame Street' amidst scandal
The sad story of Kevin Clash's departure from "Sesame Street" and the Sesame Workshop is still unfolding, but the exit of the puppeteer who was one of the popular show's driving creative forces over three decades was surely one of 2012's biggest. To date, four men have come forward claiming to have had sexual relationships with Clash when they were underage. Clash took a leave of absence and then subsequently departed the Sesame Workshop in November after the first of the accusations came out. That first accuser later withdrew the statement that the sexual contact took place when he was underage. The facts in all of these instances are very much unresolved, but Clash's departure from the show that made him famous remains shocking. And no matter how it turns out, it remains sad.
