Pop music rebounds
Love it or hate it, pop music hit a new high water mark in 2010. For the last several years, pop music had been dominated by R&B/hip-hop leaning tunes. In 2010, those songs were still in abundance, but there was also room for straight-ahead pop, such as Katy Perry’s three Billboard Hot 100 chart toppers, Ke$ha’s party-til-you-puke anthems, and, of course, Lady Gaga’s twisted romances. Rock still remains shut out at Top 40: Train’s “Hey Soul Sister” was the only song by a rock band (and we use that term loosely) to land in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 all year.
