Winner: New ABC Entertainment President Paul Lee
New ABC Entertainment President Paul Lee arrived at press tour after only 36 hours on the job and presumably without even decorating his office. He made it clear up-front that he wasn't going to (or couldn't) speak to predecessor Steve McPherson's abrupt departure less than a week earlier. He also made it clear that he was still in the earliest phase of communicating with the network's talent and getting a lay of the land.
Still, he showed up and faced reporters and even if he didn't deliver a single soundbyte of substance -- How could he? -- he set an agenda and established certain keywords so successfully that we all knew to write about Lee's devotion to branding, his love of "Modern Family" and his recognition that although a broadcast network can't be run like a cable network, certain programming strategies can be similar.
And yes, we were all charmed by his British accent, which probably added meat to the bones of his answers.
