What happened to the counter programming drama?
One film genre that's completely disappeared from the summer slate is the counter programming drama. Recent performers included "Cinderella Man," "Seabiscuit," "Road to Perdition," "World Trade Center," "The Terminal" and (arguably, it's a thriller too) "Inglorious Basterds" among others. Unfortunately, that slot has now become the "chick flick drama" film of the summer. "Julie and Julia" hit in 2009, "Eat Pray Love" in 2010 and this year DreamWorks Studios is pushing "The Help." A little more variety might be nice.
