Winner: 20th Century Fox
What a summer for 20th Century Fox. Actually, what a year. The studio has had "X-Men Days of Future Past" ($744 million global), "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" ($555 million global), "The Fault in Our Stars" ($280 million global off just a $12 million shooting budget!), "Let's Be Cops!" may barely break even and even the atrocious "The Other Woman," which opened the week before summer started, has made a profitable $194.9 million worldwide. Sure, partner DreamWorks Animation is not very happy about the fact "How To Train Your Dragon 2" underperformed in the U.S., if they can help swing a best animated Oscar statue all may be forgiven.
