Who makes the top 10?
3. Despicable Me 2
Release date: July 3
Comparisons: "Despicable Me" ($251 million), "Ice Age: The Meltdown" ($195 million)
Prediction: $300 million
Why: Universal's Illumination Entertainment animation division shocked Hollywood after the first "Despicable Me" became a monster hit three summers ago. The secret to "Despicable's" success wasn't just the entertaining and heartwarming story, but those adorable and generation-spanning minions. And, surprise, they have been at the center of Universal's campaign for the sequel. Families will flock and the "Despicable" sequel should reap the rewards of opening in (effectively) the same slot that helped Fox grow "Ice Age" into an animation powerhouse. It also doesn't hurt that the picture has no animated family competition until DreamWorks Animation's "Turbo" on July 19.
