On an otherwise dead night in the Tour, FX invited busloads of TV critics to come to the Fox Lot for a look at the mysterious new drama "American Horror Story."
Before the screening, FX executives and the show's creators told us how remarkable the show we were about to watch truly was, how genre-redefining it was, how proud the all were to be associated with it. We're a group accustomed to hyperbole, but this was hyperbolic even by those standards.
And the results of the screening?
Some critics LOVED it.
Some critics HATED it.
If I had to give my totally unscientific sense of the room, I'd say "Hate" outnumbered "Love," but since I was in the "Hate" camp, it's likely I've got blinders on.
From FX's point-of-view, this was actually probably a big score, since anything that people are talking about -- even if they're talking about it negatively -- is building buzz. And there's no doubt that "American Horror Story" will build buzz.
