Repeat some: Alesso, “Forever”
Listen to this LOUD. "PAYDAY" (yes, that's his all-caps) is a proper kick-off to this laser-eyed club set, setting the pace at 126 bpm and never letting go. Swedish DJ and producer Alesso works in dark shadows, bursts of heady-woozy noise, strings sections and unpredictable melodies in what is otherwise a straight-forward, solid debut album. I'd tear off "Tear Up the Roof," which smacks of will.i.am circa 2009, but beyond that, Alesso blends well with radio stars like Ryan Tedder, his band OneRepublic, and Tove Lo for this easy, upbeat pop-dance journey to the atmosphere.
