3. Bobby Moynihan
Moynihan started out doing a lot of man-child shtick. And to some degree, that’s a large part of his repertoire. “Drunk Uncle” is probably his best-known character at this point, and for good reason. But he’s also added a devastating comedic character this year: the befuddled straight man who says exactly what the audience is thinking. Many remember “It’s A Date” for the appearance of the Justin Timberlake/ Andy Samberg “D$ck In A Box” guys, or for the Steve Martin/Dan Aykroyd “Two Wild And Crazy Guys” duo. But watch it again: Moynihan has the least showy part, yet gets almost all of the big, non-nostalgia laughs. The way Moynihan has expanded his repertoire has yielded an increased presence on the show, which in turn has led to increased confidence.
