O’Brien and Tim Robinson have essentially switched places from last year: The latter spent one year barely in front of the camera before Lorne Michaels made him a full-time writer, and now writers’ room transplant O’Brien suffers as much as Robinson once did in front of the camera. You could make the argument that Robinson at least had a few semi-memorable sketches in addition to an outlandish personality. O’Brien’s brand of odd, cerebral humor might work well on the page, but he’s had difficulty in making a dent as a performer.
