Pretender: "Wolf of Wall Street" (Best Ensemble)
It's not a question of whether Martin Scorsese's "Wolf" has performances worth honoring for its stars or for an ensemble award. The problem is that the 1980's period comedy is arriving so last-minute for the SAG nominating committees (first screening is this weekend) that Paramount has a tough job making sure enough members to see it. Screeners are not going to happen in time and knowing all of this the studio is diminishing expectations for SAG nominations. Remember, last year neither "Zero Dark Thirty" nor "Django Unchained" — both films with killer ensembles that arrived late — made the cut over "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel." Thankfully, they had more than enough time to recover for Oscar nods, which is what Paramount will focus on with "Wolf."
