Some of the best and worst looks at the 2012 Oscars
It was the best of fashions, it was the worst of fashions. Here's our take on some of the glorious gowns and horrible mistakes that made it down the red carpet this year -- and even we were surprised by who got it right and who didn't. But we'll let you be the judge (don't forget to vote!).

Re: Esperanza Spalding
Black is beautiful. Your views on the afro were pathetic and insulting. You live in a post civil rights world. Embrace that.
Robin Dear Condiala: The Hitflix writers are not being prejudicial in their critisism of Ms. Spalding's hair. Just ask Oprah or Halle - never in a million years would they do a 'fro for the Academy Awards.

February 27, 2012 at 1:33PM ESTvictoriaj1908 Spalding's afro is her thing. She shouldn't have to change it for an awards show.

The afro is not the problem. There's no rule that says you don't cut it, comb it or manage it ever. It looked better during the show, which implies someone DID do something with her hair -- she just couldn't be bothered on the way in. Viola Davis, by the way -- natural hair and left the wigs at home. And it worked great.

February 27, 2012 at 2:37PM EST Reply to CommentMy best picks are: Angelina Jolie, Ellie Kemper, Rose Byrne, and Janet McTeer. Worst picks: Rooney Mara, Maya Rudolph, and Melissa McCarthy. I'm on the fence about Sandra Bullock. It had some pretty elements, but something about the fit was off for me.
I think I was almost more unnerved by Sandra Bullock's obvious plastic surgery -- the fit of the dress was off, but man, her eyes! She looked like Jocelyn Wildenstein from some angles. So sad -- she's a beautiful woman.
