29. "SINBAD: LEGEND OF THE SEVEN SEAS"
Released: July 2, 2003
Directors: Tim Johnson and Patrick Gilmore
Voice cast: Brad Pitt, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michelle Pfeiffer, Joseph Fiennes, Dennis Hasybert, Timothy West
How it stacks up: "Sinbad" attempted to go out big on the Independence Day weekend of 2003, but it was stomped by debuting "Terminator" and "Legally Blonde" sequels, not to mention the sixth week of Pixar's "Finding Nemo." The film never gained traction, with audiences or critics, and it's not difficult to see why. A dull take on the public domain Persian sailor, it was, thankfully, DreamWorks' last stab at chasing an old Disney formula that proved so successful for Jeffrey Katzenberg for so long in the early 1990s. Even Brad Pitt couldn't make a difference.
Memorable moment: Pitched up on (seemingly) a desert island, Sinbad and his cohorts soon enough realize — given the giant eyeball they end up standing on — that it's less a desert island and more a giant fish-monster-thing.
